One person was killed and another injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in West Crowley.
According to police reports, large crowds of people were gathered outside of locations near Avenue B and Second Street (U.S. Highway 90) after midnight when several shots were fired.
Two people were struck, one with minor injuries and a second with fatal injuries.
According to the Crowley Police Department, Kaleb Gibson, 21, of Crowley was identified as the deceased.
“With Rice Festival closing earlier, our agency, along with other agencies, assisting during the weekend have been patrolling the streets due to the large crowds for after parties,” said Police Chief K.P. Gibson.
Gibson said large groups of people were in the area of the shooting when police arrived on the scene.
“Our officers spoke to a lot of people who were present during this incident but claim to have not seen anything,” Gibson said. “We need people to get involved to resolve this crime and similar cases. Law enforcement cannot do it alone.”
The chief added that no motive for the shooting has yet been determined. Gibson said that his detectives are following up on several leads and that he will release additional information as the investigation allows.
Anyone with any information regarding the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish at 789 -TIPS (8477) or the Crowley Police Department at 783-1234.
