Would-be good Samaritans turn thief after Sunday crash

Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating a theft that occurred Sunday afternoon following an automobile accident on Louisiana Highway 13, south of Crowley.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, the victim advised that while traveling on Highway 13, her vehicle was struck by another vehicle causing her vehicle to roll on its side.
She stated that while trying to exit her vehicle through a window, two white males approached her vehicle and offered assistance. The victim then handed her valuables to the two male subjects. Upon exiting the vehicle the two subjects had left the scene along with all her personal items.
A theft report was filed with Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office. The laptop was located and recovered by the Lafayette Police Department several hours later. Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette Police Department are working together to make positive identification on the two subjects.
The investigation continues.
