Weekend shootings leave one dead, two injured

One suspect in custody, others sought

CROWLEY - A pair of shootings within 24 hours of each other left one man dead and two injured in Crowley over the weekend.

“We do believe that the second shooting was in retaliation for the person who was murdered Saturday night,” said Crowley Chief of Police K.P. Gibson.

In that incident, Crowley police officers responded to the 600 block of North Avenue B to find a male subject that had been shot in the head. The victim was transported to a Lafayette hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police have yet to identify the shooter in that incident. On Monday, Chief Gibson stated that his investigators were following all leads.

The second shooting occurred Sunday morning at 10:28 a.m. on the 500 block of West Hutchinson Ave. Several male subjects were sitting in a vehicle when they were approached by a single male. Following a brief exchange, the suspect removed a gun and proceeded to shoot into the vehicle, striking two occupants in their extremities. They were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Crowley man, Joseph B. Guidry, 33, turned himself into police in connection with the Sunday morning shootings. He has been charged with three counts of attempted murder. Judge John Trahan set his bail at $200,000.

Anyone with any information about either of the shooting incidents is urged to contact the Crowley Police Department at (337) 788-4112.
