Loranger’s Willie, Sumner’s Robertson top all-district honors
LORANGER - After losing their first district game of the season the Loranger Lady Wolves went on a tear and would not lose another district contest the rest of the season. Loranger Girl’s Coach Amny Willie was named the Coach of the year in 10-3A.
For their efforts on the hardwood several local prep stars were named to the 10-3A All-District Team. The team is selected by head coaches of the schools in the district. Sumner’s Taliah Robertson was named the districts Most Valuable Player.
Robertson had an incredible junior season for Jewel Sumner and will enter his senior year as one of the top scorers in the state in girl’s basketball next season. One of the area’s brightest young stars in Amite’s Whitney Williams was named to the 1st Team as well.
Williams help guide the Lady Warriors to a second place finish in district play and a berth in the Class 3A playoffs. Williams and the Lady Warriors beat Ben Franklin in the first round of the 3A post season before falling in the regional parings. Williams was the only sophomore to be named to the 1st team unit.
The 2nd Team All-District Unit was dominated by area players. Sumner Sophomore Radience Martin and Loranger Sophomore Kim Culbreath were both honored along with Tina Booth of the Lady Wolves.
Sumner’s Keandra James was selected to the 2nd team along with Indy Senior Shyeisha Anderson. Below are the list of names from area schools that had players named to the honorable mention team in district 10-3A.
Sumner: Lindsey Arcement, Chelsey Elzey, Haley Piner and Anslee McDaniel
Loranger: Bailiegh Bankston, Sarah Boyette and Raylin Willie
Independence: Berlashia Ruffin, Cassandra Booker and Kelsey Vidaure
Amite: Keeosha Brumfield, Geraldracea Burkhalter, Jerica White, Brittney Moore, Symone Williams, Miranda Ardrey, Bria Johnson and Jakayla Brown
