Evening ceremony unites Savoy, Theunissen

ROBERTS COVE - A nuptial Mass uniting Elizabeth Ashley Savoy of Church Point and Jakob Russo Theunissen of Rayne took place Saturday, May 1 at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Keith and Nancy Savoy of Church Point. She is the granddaughter of the late Michael “Mickey” and Geneva Scanlan, and the late Alton Savoy and great grandmother Lidiana Savoy, all of Church Point.

She is a 2005 graduate of Notre Dame High School and received a degree in the care and development of young children.

Jakob is the son of Dexter and Yvonne Cahanin Theunissen of Crowley. He is the grandson of the late Russo and Dolice Cahanin of Rayne and the late Joseph and Eve Theunissen of Crowley.

He is a 2006 graduate of Northside Christian School of Crowley and is employed by Expro of Broussard.

Four beautiful planters featuring different shades of pink garden plants were placed along the pathway leading up to the main doors of the Church. The rails on the stairway were wrapped with garland of smilax accented with beautiful ribbon. The church doors were adorned with beautiful wreaths of pink and white peonies and soft pink hydrangea.

The altar held two pedestals of English Garden roses and hydrangeas in different shades of pink, white and champagne with long variegated English ivy spilling out of the urn. The altar rails were adorned with the same combination of flowers.

The pews held swags of white ivory garden roses with delicate foliage. The windows were accented with garlands of smilax with a touch of white blossoms for accent.

Ushering guests to their seats were Josh Marceaux and Dameon Lafosse, friends of the groom.

On the arm of her father, the bride was elegant in an A-line gown that featured front and back pleats that gathered at the hemline. The waist was embellished with a beautiful Swarovski crystal bodice and embroidered band. The sweetheart neckline and chapel length train completed her look.

She wore a veil of bridal illusion that was embellished with scattered Swarovski crystals paired with a Moriell tiara.

The bride also carried an English Garden style clutch bouquet that consisted of ivory garden cabbage roses, blush peonies, gardenias, lily of the valley and soft pink hydrangea. The bouquet was encrusted with aurora borealis stones and pearls. A very special pin and rosary was attached.

Traditional items incorporated into her ensemble were a brooch borrowed from her sister, Megan Savoy as something old; a pearl and diamond necklace from her aunt and uncle as something new; a Rosary that belongs to her aunt, Rebecca Scanlan as something borrowed, and a sapphire ring borrowed from her aunt, Rebecca Scanlan as something blue.

Attending as matron of honor was Britney T. Miller, sister of the groom. Megan Savoy, sister of the bride, attended as maid of honor.

Bridal attendants were Kathryn Savoy Guidry, sister of the bride; Kelly Theunissen, Holly Adams, Mandy Martin, sisters of the groom, and Lauren Theunissen, sister-in-law of the groom. Attending as junior bridesmaid was Annsley Martin, niece of the groom, who carried a smaller version of the bridesmaid’s bouquet.

The attendants were attired in floor length pink strapless satin A-line dresses complimented by a sweetheart neckline and a wide ivory satin ruched sash.

Each carried a clutch bouquet that included a variety of antique garden roses of ivory and soft pink accented with soft hydrangea tied with long ivory ribbons. The maid of honor’s bouquet was accented with white ranunculous.

Joey Theunissen, brother of the groom, and Derek Miller, brother-in-law of the groom, served as best men.

Groomsmen were Timothy Savoy and K. Jacob Savoy, brothers of the bride; Brock Adams and Brian Martin, brothers-in-law of the groom, and David Meaux, friend of the groom. Serving as junior groomsmen was Bryant Martin, nephew of the groom.

The groom’s boutonniere consisted of lily of the valley and a few small ivory Garden roses. Each groomsmen wore boutonnieres consisting of smaller ivory Garden roses.

Attending as flower girl was Aylei Theunissen, niece of the groom. She carried a basket completely covered in ivory and soft pink garden roses with a jeweled handle and wore a crown of the same roses. Aylei was escorted down the aisle by Aiden Guidry, nephew of the bride, who carried a small brown stuffed dog.

Mother of the bride, the former Nancy Scanlan, selected a two-piece iridescent taffeta suit, which consisted of a mermaid dress that featured a scattered midriff with a sash and brooch accent paired with a matching bolero jacket that featured three-quarter sleeves.

Mother of the groom, the former Yvonne Cahanin, chose a floor length dress of mauve that featured a bodice adorned with lace and sequins paired with a matching jacket.

Both mothers carried posies of ivory and blush garden roses.

Providing the musical selections during the ceremony were Melody Thibodeaux, saprano; Paul Baker, tenor; John Moore, organist; Lauren Baker, violinist; Ivan Antonov, cello and Wilfred Green, trumpeter.

Appropriate musical selections for the ceremony included Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Pachelbel Canon in D; Fanfare by trumpet as entrance songs for the wedding party. Other musical selections included Bach-Bist du bei mir, Panis Angelicus and Ave Maria.

Elizabeth and Jakob were married on her parents’ 29th wedding anniversary and what would have been her maternal grandparents’ 61st anniversary.

Immediately following the ceremony, guests were greeted during a reception held at the Ballroom of Crowley.

At the entrance to the reception hall was a guest table draped with ivory rosette linen. A tall slender silver flute stood tall on the table filled with pink cherry blossoms. The bride’s throw bouquet, arranged among candles, was a clutch arrangement of a variety of all the English Garden flowers used in the wedding and tied with a silk ribbon.

Guest tables were draped with ivory pintuck linens. Each held silver English espergnes filled with antique Garden Roses in shades of ivory and pink, hydrangea, jasmine vine and variegated English ivy.

The bridal party table was draped in ivory pintuck linens and held silver vases filled with antique roses and pink hydrangea with a garland of delicate foliage and flowers sweeping through the table.

The food table held an urn English in style filled with the same type of flowers used in the wedding in shades of pink, white, and ivory. The table was draped with ivory damask and ivory file linens and flowers.

The bride’s table was placed in the front of a beautiful ivory fabric screen. The table was draped with an ivory file linen and overlaid with a double layered soft pink sheer linen. The wedding cake was accented with a soft pink drape of pastalage accented with roses, orchids and garden filler flowers. A fresh garland of gardenias was placed on the edge of the table with votive for accent. A pair of pedestals was placed on each side of the screen holding fresh English ivy topiaries to finish off the look. A special crystal basket filled with flowers was placed near the cake. The basket has become a traditional display for the family as the bride’s great-grandmother used in at all of the family weddings.

The bride’s cake consisted of four layers, the first of which consisted of white almond with Parisian icing, the second layer was filled with white almond topped with butter cream icing, the third was a dark chocolate confection with German chocolate icing, and the fourth layer was a pistachio confection toped with cherry blossom icing.

The groom’s cake was placed on an antique German table with cypress shutters placed behind it. The cake was a chocolate fudge confection filled with chocolate mousse frosted in a chocolate butter cream topped with milk chocolate ganache decorated with an edible 3D version of a 1986 white Honda Prelude. Two dozen chocolate covered strawberries garnished the cake.

Cabaret tables draped with ivory rosette linens were placed throughout the room.

A candy table held a variety of candy and petit fores as favors for the guests. The table was also adorned with apothecary jars and a silver bowl and trays that displayed all of the candy.

A white chocolate fountain was placed on a pretty ivory linen. An assortment of goodies, including pretzels, creme puffs, strawberries, Oreos, marshmallows and bananas was placed on the table for dipping.

The bride and groom departed from the Ballroom through a cloud of pink rose petals.

Following a wedding trip to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Rayne.

A rehearsal dinner hosted by the groom’s parents was held at Chef Roy’s restaurant in Rayne on Thursday, April 29. Guests were given a choice of crawfish etoufee, grilled chicken or friend fish served with a potato and side salad.
