Cookbook

Three days and counting!

The 77th annual International Rice Festival kicks off Thursday evening with two full days of music, events and fun to follow (see related story, this page).

And with the festival comes the Post-Signal’s award-winning Rice Festival Cookbook, which will be delivered free of charge to all of the newspaper’s subscribers.

As in the past, this year’s edition is filled with hundreds of recipes along with pictorial highlights of last year’s festival and features on this year’s event.

Additional copies of the cookbook will be available for purchase — at $10 each — at the Post-Signal business office at 602 N. Parkerson Ave. beginning on Thursday.

And we also have a limited number of earlier editions if you want to compare recipes. Last year’s cookbook is $5 and any previous years’ edition is $1 each.

Costumed Cuties

There’s just a little more than a week remaining to enter the Post-Signal’s Costumed Cutie Baby Photo Contest.

Enter your baby — all dressed up for Halloween — then watch as the winning photo is published on the front page of the newspaper on Thursday, Oct. 31, Halloween Day.

Other photos will appear on a special page in that same edition.

Photos of children up to 1 year old can be entered.

Deadline for submitting your entry form (on page 6A today) and $20 entry fee is no later that 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Entries can be dropped off at 602 N. Parkerson Ave. or mailed to The Crowley Post-Signal, ATTN: Advertising, P.O. Box 1589, Crowley 70527.

Saints

Never give Tom Brady the ball with more than 30 seconds left in the game — unless you’ve got more than an 8-point lead!

That should be the mantra for anyone wanting to beat the New England Patriots.

We watched Sunday as the New Orleans Saints came from behind to take a 1-point lead with just over three minutes left to play. Way too much time remaining!

Then the Saints’ secondary came through with a key defensive stop on fourth down. Great! Pick up a first down — or two — and run the clock down ... or better yet, score a touchdown.

Neither happened and we settled for a field goal and a four-point lead — but there were still almost two minutes left to play ... and Brady was going to get the ball again, then he threw an interception. Still no Saints first down on that drive and New Orleans punted the ball to New England with 1:13 left.

True to form, Brady — undeniably one of the best quarterbacks in the league — led the Pats 70 yards to throw the game-winning touchdown with five seconds left.

Naturally, we all wish it would have ended differently, but there’s no denying that it was one of the most exciting games ever.

Let’s hope the off week gives the Saints time to heal their wounds and come back strong against the Buffalo Bills.
