50th wedding anniversary celebrated
A 50th anniversary celebration was held on Saturday, April 11, 2009 for Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Thomas, Sr. of Crowley.
The affair commenced at 6 p.m. among family and friends at the C.F. Ladd Masonic Hall. The couple was married on April 13, 1959.
Mrs. Thomas, formerly Lillie Mae Bates, is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bates, Sr. She is a homemaker.
Mr. Thomas is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas. He is currently retired from employment.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas are the parents of six grown children to include Evelyn and her husband Rodney Byers, Darren and his wife Carmen Thomas, Tammie and her husband Jessie Dalcour, Vernon and his wife Lois Martin, all of Crowley; Samuel and his wife Katie Thomas, Jr. of Madesto, California, and the late Besty Thomas. They are the proud grandparents of twelve including Jade Savoy, Desirdre Thomas of Roswell, Georgia, Magan Lewis, of New Iberia, Jarrad and Christopher Thomas, Roddoshia and Evan Byers, Valon, Vonrika and Vandrea Martin, all of Crowley, Nicholas, Jalessa and Brandon Thomas of Madesto, California. They have six great grand kids including Tyler, Aynihia, Donovan and Avalon Martin of Crowley, Draylan Lewis of New Iberia and Christian Currin of Atlanta, Georgia.
On her special day, Mrs. Thomas was lovely in a two-piece skirted suit with a white shirt and brown skirt topped with a tan colored jacket, while her husband was stunning in a dark brown suit accented with a cream colored shirt and light brown derby hat.
The couple was honored with a beautiful confection consisting of white cake with strawberry and pineapple filling. The delicacy was enveloped in white buttercream icing and adorned with teal hued flowers and gold leaves. Placed on opposite corners of the cake were icing sheet photos of the couple from 50 years ago and present time. Behind the table was a lattice wall backdrop with a decor of gold hearts.
The tables were covered with black and gold table clothes with gold and ivory balloons placed center. The hall displayed 50th anniversary decorations throughout.
Providing the nights entertainment was disc jockey J.Y.D.
Approximately 75 guests attended with out-of-towners traveling from Rayne and New Iberia; and out-of-state guests registering from Houston and California.
