Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon advised warrants have been issued for Curtis Cheley, age 35 of Tabernacle, DeRidder, in connection with the accident that occurred on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 83 on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 24.

Melancon stated that in addition to the traffic related charges that were filed by Louisiana State Police his office is charging Cheley with attempted carjacking, battery on a police officer, resisting arrest violently and interfering with the duties of a police officer.

State Police charged Cheley with reckless operation and DWI.

Cheley, who suffered only a head gash, acted belligerently and threw a punch at a sheriff’s deputy, forcing authorities to use a taser.

Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency or the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 788-8700.
