Ednez B. Gilbert celebrates 90 years during surprise party

The family of Ednez B. Gilbert honored the 90--year-old birthday honoree on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, during a surprise birthday party held at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café in Rayne. The 4 p.m. celebration was hosted by her children and their spouses.
The former Ednez Boudreaux, daughter of the late Lucille and Dewey Boudreaux of Rayne, was born on Jan 3, 1924. Her siblings are Rita Hill of Andrews, Texas, Willie Etta Vancleve of Monahans, Texas, Hazel Bruney of Sulphur and the late Dudley Boudreaux of Rayne.
Ednez and her husband, the late Millard “Milo” Gilbert, raised their large and loving family in Rayne. Their children are Linda Gilbert of Lafayette, Mitchell Gilbert of Stafford, Texas, Michelle Gilbert of Austin, Texas, Marie Gilbert of Mary Ester, Fla., Jackie G. Melancon of Crowley, Daniel Gilbert of Rayne, Lilly G. Melancon of Lafayette, Larry Gilbert of Duson, Elaine Gilbert of Rayne, and the late Tommy Gilbert, Renola G. Richard and Donald Gilbert.
In addition to a choice of menu items, a special birthday cake was provided for the party, a large sheet cake one-half white and one-half chocolate covered with white icing, decorated with pink and lavender roses, and topped with the number “90.”
The cake table was decorated with pictures of the birthday honoree, past and present, in addition to a colorful “Happy Birthday” banner against a white tablecloth. Guest tables were also topped with white linens for the special occasion.
