Hard work pays off at Acadia Parish Junior Livestock Show and Sale

It was “standing room only” for buyers  at this year’s Acadia Parish Livestock Sale held at the LSU AgCenter Saturday morning. 

All of the animals up for bid, which included steers, goats, lambs and hogs, were raised and shown by Acadia Parish students participating in the 4-H and FFA programs.

Acadia Parish Extension Agent Barrett Courville of the LSU AgCenter welcomed those in attendance and called upon 4-H Junior Leader Trace Gaspard to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and 4-H Junior Leader Payton Zaunbrecher to lead the 4-H Pledge.

Courville went on to present the Acadia Parish Livestock Show and Sale’s scholarship, which is given annually, to two deserving students – Dustin Breaux and Blayre Lantier. Each student will receive $750.

Following the Parade of Champions, the microphone was turned over to Ken Goss, who presided over this year’s event as auctioneer.

This year’s Grand Champion goat was shown by Brailie Cormier and fetched $2,000 at the auction. The animal was purchased by Professional Pumping Services, represented by Scotty Fruge.

The Grand Champion steer, shown by Claire Morgan, was sold to Rusty Freeland of First National Farms for $5,000.

Madeline Deshotel showed the Grand Champion lamb, which was sold to Z&D Trucking, represented by Ron Doise, for $1,800.

The Grand Champion hog was shown by Wyatt Manuel and sold at auction for $2,500 to Jarrod Breaux Farms, also represented by Ron Doise.
