Acadia Players to offer summer day camp

This summer, the Acadia Players will be offering its very own week-long day camp here in Crowley.

The camp, “To Art and Beyond,” is scheduled for June 2 through 6 at the Acadia Parish Center for the Arts & Culture, 530 W. Mill St., and will be held in the mornings, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The camp is designed for youths ages 8 through 14 and will include instruction on art, drama and production.

For the art portion of the camp, attendees will study clay sculpture (using Rodin’s “The Thinker” and Degas’ “Little Dancer of 14 Years”); painting landscapes (using Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” and Winslow Homer’s “Two Guides”); acrylic painting and gesture drawing with watercolor (using Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” and Picasso’s “Hands with Flowers”); and neoplasticism collage (using Piet Mondrian’s “Broadway Boogie Woogie”).

Drama-wise, the campers will tour the theater and receive instruction on stage direction, voice, characterization, body language and movement, sets, props and costumes.

With regard to production, campers will study skit writing, script selection and casting.

During the week, campers will create their own works of art, as well as prepare a play for performance, all of which will be showcased on the Friday ending the camp session.

Camp counselors will be Patty Ronkartz and Sidney Gilder - art; Dilyn Stewart and Jimmy Broussard - drama; and Rachel LaCroix and Katt Barousse - production.

The cost of the camp is $50 per child, and registration is limited to the first 30 youths to register and pay the fee.
