James Carey Martien

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church for James Carey Martien Jr., 88, who died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 3:10 p.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley. 

Mr. Martien was a native of Waterproof and longtime resident of Crowley. He owned and operated Martien Air Conditioning for 45 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church Methodist Men’s organization, the Lake Arthur Yacht Club and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Martien was an avid LSU football and baseball fan and enjoyed his many years of traveling with his late wife Nell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and proudly served during World War II. 

Rev. Charlie Crews will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Friday from 2 p.m. to 9  p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Martien is survived by three daughters, Emily M. Lawrence and husband Robert of Rayne, Elizabeth Martien of Lafayette and Mary Martien of Rayne; one son, Byron Martien and wife Patricia of Crowley; one niece, Mary Helen Booksh of Maringouin; one nephew, Bobby Martien of Friendwoods, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Laura Martien, James C. Martien IV, Seth Martien, Robert Alexander Lawrence, Rachel Chigoy, Sara McDaniel, Abigail Louise Hebert, Alex Nikhail Martien, Taylor Byron Martien, AnaClaire Aline Martien, Dustin Hoffpauir, Kaleigh Helo and Trey Helo; 10 great-grandchildren; 

He was preceded in death by his wife Renella Q. “Nell” Martien; one son, Jimmy Martien; his parents, James Carey Martien Sr. and Helen Nordyke Martien; and his brother, Fred Paul Martien.

Pallbearers will be Byron Martien, Taylor Martien, James Martien, Seth Martien, Robert Alexander Lawrence and William McDaniel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lawrence, Bobby Martien and Ricky Booksh.
