Acadia Volunteers for Family and Community Achievement Day results
The Acadia Volunteers for Family and Community (AVFC) held their annual Achievement Day on Wednesday, May 7, at the LSUAgCenter in Crowley.
This year’s theme was “AVFC Goes Back in Time.”
AVFC President Elaine Chatagnier welcomed guests, followed by the Presentation of Colors and the Pledge of Allegiance. A recording of John Wayne giving a special patriotic rendition of the Pledge, along with “Why I Love America,” was played, adding to the “back in time” atmosphere of the event.
Barrett Courville, Parish Chair for the Acadia Parish Extension Office of LSU AgCenter, welcomed the group and pledged the AgCenter’s ongoing support to AVFC, which is an affiliate of Louisiana Volunteers for Family and Community with a Memorandum of Understanding with LSU AgCenter.
Guest speaker was Amber Menard, nutrition consultant and owner of Weight Wise Clinic in Scott, who spoke regarding healthy eating and lifestyle changes.
Several members shared their “going-back-in-time” journeys with words and “back-then” pictures of themselves or their “old time” grandparents. The heartfelt stories were warm and uniquely personal.
Many contest categories were open for competition and the items entered were exceptional.
Lunch was catered by members of the TOPS Organization, and the group enjoyed entries from the dessert competition afterward.
After lunch, contest placings and Best Overall winners were announced. Chatagnier also handed out special certificates awarded to AVFC members at the LVFC State Convention in Houma in April.
The day ended with a recitation of the “old” club collect, a fitting conclusion for the “back in time” day.
