German Heritage Museum seeks display items
A call is being made once again for specific items to be displayed in the German Heritage Museum in Roberts Cove. This year marks the 20th anniversary celebration of the Roberts Cove Germanfest, which is planned for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5.
Decorative plates
The museum is seeking special or decorative plates passed down by parents, grandparents, etc., to be showcased in one of its display rooms.
Each plate must be sent to the museum before Monday, Sept. 1, and must have its own holder or stand.
Honoring our native sisters
In its Religious Display Room, the museum will feature much Roberts Cove history with an emphasis on the Benedictine Sisters, Most Holy Sacrament Sisters, Divine Providence Sisters and Sisters of Mount Carmel.
Six of the sisters from these orders are available to tell their stories first hand: Sister Mildred Leonards, Sister Agnes Thevis and Sister Theresa Gossen (Sisters of Divine Providence); Sister Lawrence Habetz and Sister Clare Cramer (Sisters of Mount Carmel); and Sister Margaret Ohlenforst (Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament.
Original colonists
When the Roberts Cove Germanfest began 20 years ago, one of the goals was to preserve the memory of those courageous and faith-filled colonists who left Germany and settled in Roberts Cove. During this anniversary year, the museum will once again briefly spotlight the determination and hardships they endured. A short story with photos of all of them will be displayed.
Highlights of past Germanfests
Also on exhibit will be photos from past Germanfest celebrations.
