Prep Volleyball Roundup
CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Lady Pios graduated nearly every starter from their 2013 state runnersup volleyball team and were supposed to be going through a rebuilding season this year.
That didn’t look to be the case on Tuesday, however.
Grace Morgan dominated in the season opener, racking up 19 kills and two blocks to lead the Lady Pios to a 3-1 victory over Division III power St. Louis.
Morgan also added six digs while Olivia Barbin totaled five kills, nine digs and two aces. Anne Faulk recorded four kills, one assist and one dig; Hunter LeBlanc had 14 assists, four digs and one ace and Sammi Leger had 12 assists, one dig and one ace.
Paityn Miller finished with one kill and five digs and Morgan Oliver had 15 digs and two aces.
The Lady Pios will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on Parkview and Zachary at Parkview Baptish High School.
Iota sweeps DeQuincy
DEQUINCY – Erika Manuel and Madelin Gatte combined for 16 kills Tuesday to lead the Iota Lady Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory over DeQuincy in the season opener for both teams.
Manuel also added three aces and five digs in the victory while Gatte had one dig.
Taylor Deville and Mallory Faul had six kills each; Whitney Landry added five; Jillian Boone had two and Cambri St. Andre finished with one.
Faul also had 24 assists and two digs while Deville had a block and an assist.
Landry added two digs, Boone had one ace and 16 digs and St. Andre had one ace and six digs.
Also contributing in the victory were Avery Wriborg (7 digs), Emily Navarre (7 digs, 1 ace) and Rhianna Stephens (1 dig).
Iota returns to the court on today when they play host to Westminster at 5 p.m.
Northside Christian tops LCA
CROWLEY – The Northside Christian Lady Warriors kicked off the 2014 prep volleyball season Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over Lafayette Christian.
The Lady Warriors sandwiched a 25-17 victory in game two between a pair of 25-16 wins to claim the season opener.
Kathryn Zaunbrecher led the Lady Warriors with 13 kills and 13 blocks. The junior middle hitter also logged two aces and three digs on the evening.
Senior setter Sydney Guidry set up the offense by recording 35 assists. She also had two aces and 12 digs.
Madisyn Clement added 30 assists to go along with two kills, three aces and 15 digs while Leah Monte had three kills, one ace and 21 digs.
Zoie Hanagriff added three kills, two aces and 20 digs; Cydni Crozier had two kills, one ace, four digs and three blocks and Meghan Vincent had 34 digs.
The Lady Warriors will be in action again today when they take on Westlake and Sulphur in the Westlake tournament. They will also take on Jennings and Crowley on Friday.
