Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma plans new year

Xi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International began the 2014-15 chapter year on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with its first meeting at North Crowley Elementary School.

The meeting opened with the initiation of Crowley High School teacher Debra Duplechin as a new member. She was escorted by Peggy Ancelet, and officers participating in the ritual of initiation included President Jessica Robichaux, First Vice President Denise Frederick and Second Vice President Stephanie Webb.

President Robichaux presided over the formal business meeting, with Josie Fontenot leading the recitation of the collect and Christi Domangue leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Sandra Pruitt read the minutes of the last meeting, and Jo-Anne Arnaud gave the treasurer’s report.

President Robichaux read correspondence from the state president regarding the state convention to be held in Lafayette in March 2015. The theme of the convention will be “Lights, Camera, Action,” and Xi Chapter will team with Alpha Omega Chapter to decorate the tables for the Saturday night banquet.

World Fellowship Chairman Casey Vercher reported that the item for the fundraiser raffle this year is a limited-edition sterling silver bell pendant on a sterling chain from The Bell Collection. Tickets will be sold preceding the convention and the drawing will take place at the convention.

Under new business, the president passed out registration forms for the Southwest District meeting to be held Oct. 4 at First Baptist Church in DeRidder. Attendees are requested to bring a children’s book with a math theme to the meeting.

The following nominations were made to send in for district competition: Rose-in-Bloom - Casey Vercher; Rosebud - Peggy Ancelet; and Golden Roses - Debra Duplechin, Becky Istre, Cheryl LeMaire and Carla Lambousy.

Pruitt was nominated for the office of state second vice president.

Following the conclusion of the business session, First Vice President Frederick, program chairman, presented an overview of the year’s programs. Pruitt reported on another chapter that honors female graduates with 4.0 grade point averages with a reception including their parents. Xi members voted to consider the idea for the end of the school year and honor 4.0 female graduates parishwide. Duplechin volunteered to chair the activity.

The president then reviewed the duties of each committee for the benefit of new members who had not served on those committees.

The meeting concluded with the singing of “The Delta Kappa Gamma Song” led by Elaine Simon.

Refreshments were served by the Frederick, Webb, Istre, LeMaire and Sara Mouton, who hosted the meeting.

Additional members present included Mary Beth Geesey, Page Gray, Suzanne Gray, Joanna Pruitt and Lisa Stewart.
