New club year begins for Three-Ten
Members of the Three-Ten Club gathered at the home of Georgie Petitjean on Sept. 16 to kick off a new club year.
Sharing hostess duties with Petitjean were Betty Faulk and Flo Faulk.
President Sandy Melancon called the meeting to order and warmly welcomed everyone back following the summer recess. Vice President Gretchen Ohlenforst led the members in the recitation of the club collect and Pledge of Allegiance.
Dues for the upcoming year were collected by Treasurer Bobbie de la Houssaye, and a proposed 2014-15 budget was then presented and adopted.
Melancon introduced new member Esther Trahan, who was then duly inducted into Three-Ten by Ohlenforst. Members also welcomed back M’elise Trahan, who has returned to active status.
Mary Beth Geesey, chairman of the community projects committee, led a discussion of several service programs in the community. The club then voted to donate its philanthropic funds to Empowering the Community for Excellence, a tutoring program created and run by Audry Bernard Spencer.
Additionally, the club will collect toiletries and other types of donations for Faith House and will continue to work at Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen.
Flo Faulk reported that the club’s annual college scholarship had been presented in May to Notre Dame senior Lance Edwards.
Alice Whiting and Louise Morrow will contact the public library to donate a book in memory of former Three-Ten member Imogene Lacour.
Flo Faulk gave a riveting introduction of the club’s 2014-15 theme: “Criminal Minds and the Demons That Drive Them.”
Georgie Petitjean then distributed new yearbooks that listed upcoming monthly programs that will explore this theme through diverse topics such as the Holocaust, the Spanish Inquisition, deranged Roman emperors, mass murderers, etc.
Refreshments and fellowship were thoroughly enjoyed after the meeting.
