Church Point cruises past Port Barre

CHURCH POINT – The fifth-ranked Church Point Bears exploded for 33 points in the third period remained perfect on the season with a 56-14 win over Port Barre.
The Bears (8-0, 3-0 in District 5-3A travel to Ville Platte this week.
The Bulldogs (3-5, 2-1)lost 21-0 to undefeated Livonia.
Frederick Williams returned a punt 55 yards with 9:38 left in the first period and Kian Richard’s PAT gave the Bears a 7-0 lead.
Deion Monroe ran 31 yards for a score as the Bears pushed ahead 13-0 with 5:08 left in the quarter.
Port Barre’s DeAngelo Von Allen scored on a 6-yard run and Dewayne Fontenot’s PAT closed the gap to 13-7 with 10:26 left in the half.
Richard drilled a 32-yard field goal with 6:28 remaining to give the Bears a 16-7 advantage.
Red Devil (2-6, 0-3) quarterback Austin Lanclos scored on a 1-yard run with 53 seconds remaining and Fontenot’s kick closed the margin to 16-14 at intermission.
Williams returned the second half kickoff 87 yards and Richard’s PAT gave the Bears a 23-14 lead.
Monroe scored on a 2-yard run with 8:12 left in the third as Church Point pushed ahead, 29-14.
Williams scored on a 44-yard run to give the Bears a 35-14 margin with 7:57 left in the third quarter.
With 6:32 left, Monroe raced 36 yards and Richard’s kick pushed the Bears ahead, 42-14.
Darrell Collins raced 53 yards on an interception return and Richard’s PAT increased Church Point’s lead to 49-14 with 2:03 left in the third frame.
With 2:36 left in the game, Jamicha Wheeler scored on a 2-yard run and Richard’s kick closed the scoring a 56-14.
Monroe finished with 92 yards on 10 carries, while Williams had four carries for 70 yards.
Christian Veronie added 52 yards on eight carries.
Church Point quarterback Troy Matte completed 4-of-10 passes for 101 yards and an interception.
Williams had one catch for 46 yards and Jacques Wimberly had two receptions for 44 yards.
