Camilia Abshire
Mire—A Mass of Christian Burial for Camilia Abshire, 91, of Indian Bayou will be celebrated on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Mire. Monsignor Russell Harrington will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in Abshire Cemetery, Kaplan.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., and will continue until 1:15 P.M. on Sunday in Duhon Funeral Home, Rayne. A rosary will be led by Catholic Daughters on Saturday at 6:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
Ms. Abshire passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 3:55 P.M. in a Lafayette hospital.
A native and resident of Indian Bayou, Ms. Abshire had been a long time resident of Mire. She was a faithful member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, and she lived out her faith as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and as a lifetime member of Ladies Altar Society.
Ms. Abshire enjoyed playing cards, dancing, going to the casinos, and gardening. Her greatest joy in life was caring for and spending time with her family.
Survivors include daughters, Bertha Istre of Indian Bayou, and Barbara Bergeron of Mire; sons, Leroy Istre and wife, Paulette of Mire, and David Mire and wife, Renee of Lafayette; sisters, Hilda Leger of Lafayette, and Ruby Abshire of Indian Bayou; brother, Alton Abshire of Indian Bayou; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding Ms. Abshire in death were her parents, Clodis and Olite Simon Abshire; first husband, Alex Istre; second husband, Deluse Mire; sister, Alice Foreman; brother, Vernice Abshire; grandson, Lafraye Foster; and granddaughter, Patsy Dugas.
Serving as pallbearers are Sherry Trahan, Kimball Foster, Dwayne Bergeron, Austin Mire, Gavin Mire, and Norris Bergeron, Jr. Named as honorary pallbearers are Warren Rost, Chuck Terro, Colton Foster, Kent Cormier, Scotty Roy, and Keith Richard.
