Acadiana knocks off
Pios to reach finals

MIDLAND – The Acadiana Wrecking Rams went on a 16-2 run in the third quarter and pulled away for a 53-30 victory over Notre Dame Friday in the semifinals of the Midland Holiday Spectacular.
The Rams took on tournament host Midland in the title game Saturday night, but results of that contest were not available at press time.
In the semifinals, the Pios kept it close early and trailed just 26-18 at the half, thanks to six points from Claiton Johnson and five from Hunter Meche.
But the Pios went cold from there, scoring just two points in the third quarter.
Johnson’s drive and bucket in the lane with just over six minutes to go in the third quarter cut the lead to 30-20.
Acadiana proceeded to score 12 more points, nine from Paris Mercier, and took a 42-20 advantage into the final stanza.
The Pios’ struggles shooting continued in the fourth quarter where they hit just one more shot from the floor, a bucket on a drive by Johnson with just under two minutes remaining. The other eight points scored by the Pios in the final frame were all from the free throw line.
Mercier and Dre Broussard each scored 13 points in the Rams’ winning effort.
Johnson was the high man for the Pios with 13 points and Tyler Simar finished with seven. Meche added five points, Ethan Smith and Joseph Stringfellow each had two and John Duos had one.
Iota edges Gueydan
in Basile tourney

BASILE – The Iota Bulldogs built a 17-point cushion in the first half and then held off a late run to defeat Gueydan, 56-46, in the Basile Round Robin Friday afternoon.
The Dogs led 10-2 after the first quarter before exploding for 22 points in the second frame.
Garrett Reppond led the second half surge by connecting on four 3-pointers to help push the Bulldogs’ lead to 32-15 at the break.
Gueydan’s Malik Crine poured in 11 points in the third quarter to help the Bears cut the lead to 46-34 heading into the final frame.
Cade Sonnie had seven points in the fourth quarter as Gueydan outscored Iota 12-10.
Reppond had a game-high 16 points in the victory. He was followed by Bray Latiolais with nine points; Chase Doucet added eight and Triston Fontenot scored seven.  Landon LeJeune and Hunter Andrus each had six points while Dylan Hebert and Kade Hebert each finished with two.
Pios slip past Iowa
MIDLAND – Notre Dame guard Claiton Johnson poured in a game-high 26 points and Hunter Meche added 15 more to help lead the Pios to a 60-53 victory over Iowa Thursday evening in a first-round game of the Midland Holiday Spectacular.
Johnson scored 12 points in the first half and the Pios trailed by one (26-25) heading into the intermission.
The senior guard turned it up a notch in the second half, scoring eight points in the third quarter to spark a run that sent the Pios into the final frame with a 44-33 cushion.
Iowa outscored the Pios 20-16 in the final frame.
John Duos scored six points in the victory while Ethan Smith and David Gonzalez each had four. Joseph Stringfellow followed with three points and Tyler Simar had two.
Lady Dogs cruise
past Bell City

MIDLAND – The Iota Lady Bulldogs placed 11 players in the scoring column Thursday in a 71-26 thrashing of Bell City in an opening round game of the Midland Holiday Spectacular.
The Lady Dogs led 44-14 at the half before outscoring the Lady Bruins 27-12 in the final two frames.
Mallory Faul led all scorers on the day with 16 points. Cambri St. Andre and Avery Wriborg each hit double figures with 10 points each;  Becca Fantroy followed with eight points; Taylor DeVille scored seven and Whitney Landry and Alexis St. Andre each had six. Patricia Deshotel, Shydie Johnson, Madison Oliver and Jillian Boone rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Bulldogs top Basile
BASILE – The Iota Bulldogs erupted for 41 points in the second half and cruised to a 70-40 victory over Basile in the Basile Round Robin Thursday evening.
Kade Hebert and Hunter Andrus each scored 11 points in the victory while Chase Doucet and Landon LeJeune each scored 10. Dylan Hebert followed with nine points; Garrett Reppond and Triston Fontenot each added seven, Bliss Deshazo scored three and Bray Latiolais had two.
CHS Ladies
upend Kaplan

CROWLEY – Myah Rogers and Nykeila Winters combined for 19 points to help lead the Crowley Ladies to a 44-31 victory over Kaplan Thursday evening.
Rogers scored 10 points for the Ladies and Winters had nine. Chelsea Yokum followed with eight points; Teara Breaux, six; Breanna Larry, five; Hannah Hart, four and Taylor Dapremont, two.
