Acadiana, Carencro win MHS Holiday Spectacular titles

MIDLAND – The Midland Rebels made a run at it but in the end, the Acadiana Rams proved to be too much in the finals of the Midland Holiday Spectacular.
The Rams closed out the game on a 7-2 run to slip past the Rebels, 44-38, and claim the tournament’s boys’ title.
Midland trailed just 37-36 entering the final frame after outscoring the Rams 15-13 in the third quarter.
But the Rams took advantage of two Rebels turnovers in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter and went up by five before Dylan Boudreaux hit a shot in the paint to get Midland back within three (41-38). From there, Acadiana hit three free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Traven Guidry paced the Rebels with eight points while Boudreaux, Randy Primeaux and Taatum Rubin each scored seven. Dagan Patin followed with six points and Devin Gautreaux finished with five.
Lady Rebels fall short
Carencro’s Alysha Guidry torched the nets for 25 points, 10 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Carencro Lady Bears to a 56-43 victory over Midland in the girls’ finals of the Midland Holiday Spectacular Saturday.
The Lady Rebels were led by Kristen Breaux with 24 points. She was followed by Bethany LeJeune, Macy Hoffpauir and Brooke Comeaux with five points each and Nicole Kraut with four.
Gents upend Pios
The Crowley Gents cruised to a 68-37 victory over Notre Dame Saturday to claim third place honors in the Midland Holiday Spectacular.
Jacq’Co Price and Alkwan Wesby paced the Gents with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Tyrin Daniels added 11 points in the victory while Chris Osten had eight, Paul Goodley and Grant Trahan, six each;  Tiron Foreman, five; Quanterral Robinson, two and Perry Myles, one.
Claiton Johnson and Billy Nygel each scored 10 points for the Pios. They were followed by John Duos with five points; Joseph Stringfellow and Tyler Simar, three each and Hunter Meche, Ethan Smith and Jeff Frank each with two.
