A Mass of Christian burial for Lester Joseph LeJeune, 80, of Mermentau, will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. with Father Randall Moreau officiating.
Visitation was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Monday, Jan. 5, from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass.
Lester will be laid to rest in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery with Full Military Rites.
Lester was born in Lake Arthur on June 15, 1934, to the late Artelus LeJeune and the late Alzina Kibodeaux LeJeune. He was called to his heavenly father on Jan. 3, 2015.
Lester served our country honorably in the Navy. Lester worked as a supervisor of LeeVac Shipyard for a number of years. He also enjoyed doing woodworking and watching his favorite football teams, the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers. Most of all, Lester loved cooking Sunday dinners for his family. Lester was a kind and loving person and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lester is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Wilda Thibodeaux LeJeune of Mermentau; four sons, Brian Michael (Chris) LeJeune of Jennings, Stephen (Gail) LeJeune of Iota, Timmy (Lisa) LeJeune of Mermentau and Jonathan (Stacy) of Mermentau; one sister, Dorothy “Dot” Sonnier of Jennings; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
Lester is preceded in death by his parents, Artelus and Alzina LeJeune; four brothers, Wilbert, Milford, Elmer and Oria LeJeune; and two sisters, Ella Mae Stanley and Rose Richard.
Carrying Lester to his final resting place in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery will be Joshua LeJeune, Cade LeJeune, Jacob LeJeune, Brandon LeJeune, Justin LeJeune and Jessy LeJeune.
