New Optimist Club of Crowley holds Charter Banquet

On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Crowley’s newly-formed Optimist Club held its Charter Banquet at the Empowering the Community for Excellence Learning Center in Crowley.

At the banquet, President Kerri Chiasson was presented the club’s official bell, gavel and banner. 

The club was honored with the presence of District Governor Tom Howell from Huntsville, Alabama. Lt. Governor Gayle Jones and Club Builder Lenor Cox, both of Jennings, were also present for the banquet.

Gov. Howell presented President Chiasson the framed club charter to be hung in their club meeting place, as well as a certificate for being the charter club president. 

The newly formed civic club has already held a fundraiser and participated in the city’s Christmas festivities. The members are currently planning a large garage sale for Saturday, Feb. 7 at 611 East Pine Street.  Several community projects are on the drawing board, also.

The club members are working together sharing ideas and skills to “Bring Out the Best in Kids,” the Optimist motto.

The new club was chartered on Nov. 6, 2014, and has 26  members. It is part of the Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi District of Optimist International.
