Joseph R. Meaux
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.
Joseph R. Meaux, 87, a longtime resident of Crowley, died peacefully on the morning of Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at the Encore Nursing Home. Mr. Meaux was retired from the Riviana Rice Dryer where he had been the bookkeeper for many years. He was also bookkeeper and tax preparer for many of the residents of Crowley and the surrounding area. He was probably best known as the owner and manager of the Tastee Shoppee, a local family restaurant. Joseph was a member of the United States Army Air Corps and proudly served his country during WWII.
Mr. Meaux, was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lauraine T. Meaux; his father, Amedie Meaux; his mother, Eve Trahan Breaux; his stepfather, Ovey Breaux; and his son, Richard Meaux. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Austin and Millie Meaux of Crowley, Carol and Tilford Simoneaux of Crowley, Helena Meaux and Joey Denicola of Tioga, Pam and Wayne Hebert of Houston, Texas, and Janice Meaux of Crowley. He also had eight grandchildren, Crystal Simoneaux Hammock, Jermey Simoneaux, Joshua Simoneaux, Adam Meaux, Nathan Meaux, Amy Gautreaux, Gabriel Hebert and Eve Hebert DeLancey; 14 great-grandchildren, Madison Meaux, Justin Meche, Hannah Meche, Jackson Simoneaux, Piper Simoneaux, Zander Simoneaux, Amber Guillotte Ezell, Kaylie Guillotte, Kevin Guillotte, Sagan Simon, Samuel Hebert, Daniel Hebert, Law DeLancey and Avalie DeLancey; as well as three great-great-grandchildren; Kaiden Ezell, Mya LiāEzell and Hailynn Abshire.
The visitation was Saturday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with the burial following at the Johnson-Hanks Cemetery in Morse. The Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24. Fr. Matthew Higginbotham, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, will conduct the services.
