Locals fare well at Patriot Relays
LEROY – The Crowley Gents, competing at less than full strength, racked up 81 points to finish third in a field of 10 at the Patriot Relays hosted by North Vermilion High School Friday.
Cecilia won boys’ portion of the meet with 142 points while Abbeville slipped past Crowley for second with 83 points. Notre Dame was eighth (26) and Church Point came in ninth (14).
The Gents failed to win a single event, but they did place second in four events, including all three of the relays.
Jacq’Co Price, John Marceaux, Ty’Von Griffin and Xavier Johnson raced to a time of 43.98 in the 4x100 relay while Price, Johnson, Mikal Hebert and Tra Lewis clocked a 1:32.72 in the 4x200. Damon Guidry, Hebert, Johnson and Lewis ran a 3:36.83 in the 4x400.
Guidry also claimed runner-up honors in the high jump at 6-2 and he was fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.64). Price was third in the 200-meter dash (22.18) and fifth in the triple jump (39-6). Paul Goodley added to the Gents’ point total with a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles (16.42) and a fourth-place showing in the high jump (5-10).
Also scoring a third-place finish was Quentron Gallow in the 400 (56.22).
Eric LaCombe was third in the pole vault (12-6) and Darrid Romero was fifth (11-0) in that event.
Also scoring for the Gents were John Ortiz with a fifth-place finish in the 400 (56.22) and Marshall Wilbert, who was fifth in the discus (117-3).
The Pios’ top finisher was Nate Link with a runner-up showing in the discus (127-4). Paul Guidry was fifth in shot put (42-11) and Hunter Miller was fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.08).
Miller also teamed with Hayden Bourgeois, Connor Fay and Lance Bertrand to place fifth in the 4x200 relay (1:36.72).
Church Point got a victory from Damon Joseph in the shot put (46-9) and a fourth-place showing from Lane Bergeron in the pole vault (11-6).
On the girls’ side, Notre Dame Finsihed sixth with 51 points while Crowley followed with 50. Church Points was seventh with 46 points.
Erin Trahan was the top performer for the Lady Pios with victories in the 800 (2:29.60) and the 1600-meter run (5:56) while Aline Gossen took top honors in the 3200 (13:01). Anna Claire Gossen was second in the 3200 (14:42).
Trahan also teamed with Madison Gray, Leann Gray and Brooklyn Owens to place fourth in the 4x400 relay (4:42.76).
The CHS Ladies got the bulk of their points from Jalaysia Hebert, who won both hurdle events. She ran a 16.00 in the 100 hurdles and 51.61 in the 300 hurdles.
Hebert also teamed with Jasmine Chapman, Bailee Villejoin and Raina Scott for a fourth-place finish in the 4x200 relay (1:54.90).
Myah Rogers added a runner-up finish in the long jump (15-4), Brooklyn Johnson was third in the pole vault (8-0), Villejoin was fourth in the high jump (4-9) and Amber Vincent was fourth in the 1600 (6:31.40).
Bria Frank and Lauren Sonnier led the charge for Church Point.
Frank, the meet’s Outstanding Track Performer, was first in the 200 (26.54) and second in the 100 (12.80) while Sonnier won the pole vault (10-0).
Both also ran legs on the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
The duo joined Daijaha Thomas and Janesica Celestine to win both races. They clocked a 51.37 in the 4x100 and a 1:49.40 in the 4x200.
