District diamond action heads into home stretch

The Wolves and Ladies are looking at the home stretch of their district slates as district play continues.
Lady Wolves
The No. 8-ranked Rayne High Lady Wolves inproved their district slate to 8-1 with wins over LaGrange and Opelousas.
In a double-header played Tuesday in Lake Charles, the Lady Wolves needed extra innings to squeak by LaGrange for 7-4 and 3-2 wins.
During the wins, Madalyn Dupont racked up four RBI’s on two hits for the Lady Wolves as she homered in the first and singled in the fifth.
She was joined in the stats by Whitney Fontenot with a triple and RBI, and singles by Cecily Schexnyder, McKenzie Meche and Gabrielle Peltier.
Rayne hurler Madison Venable kept runners off the basepaths in her appearance giving up just one hit, allowing no earned runs, no walks and struck out four during her two innings of work.
Kelcie Bourgeois got the win for the Lady Wolves as she allowed four runs over five innings striking out seven, while she allowed five walks and surrendered three hits.
In their 15-0 marathon over Opelousas, Venable got the win on the mound for the Lady Wolves. She pitched the four-inning shutout with 10 strikeouts while giving up one walk and one hit.
Among the collection of hits, Fontenot led stats with two hits and four RBI’s. She was joined by teammates McKenzie Meche, Blair Bergeron, Madelyn Dupont, Madison Venable and Brittany Broussard with a barrage of hits.
The Lady Wolves are slated to host Crowley High today (Thursday) and Beau Chene on Monday to wrap up their district slate before traveling to Comeaux the following Monday and Cecilia on Wednesday as they prepare for the state brackets to be released on Friday, April 17th. Playoff games will begin the following Monday, April 20, with bracket to be released soon.
Wolves
In a late scoring drive by Beau Chene, the Wolves dropped a district slate to the Gators, 4-0.
Despite six base runners, the Wolves just couldn’t tap home. Hunter Keely was the lone Wolf with hits on the day, while teammates T-Jun Doucet, Gannon Quebodeaux and Brice Meche reached base on walks.
Keely allowed only five hits and two walks in the close contest while collecting three strikeouts during his three innings on the mound.
Teammate Jacob Hebert finished the final four innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
The Wolves are scheduled to meet Washington-Marion (Tuesday) and LaGrange (Thursday) this week before returning to Rayne for a district contest against Eunice on Tuesday and Crowley on Thursday of next week.
