Benoit Martin family gathers for sixth annual reunion
Four generations of descendants of the late Benoit Martin recently gathered for their annual family reunion in Crowley.
The family also took advantage of the gathering to celebrate the 91st birthday of Duiby Martin, Benoit’s surviving spouse, and the 60th birthday of Marion Martin.
The event was held at the home of Duiby Martin and was attended by more than 65 guests.
The “chuck wagon”-themed sixth annual reunion was decorated in a counry-western motif with stick horses and lassos, and attendees were encouraged to wear cowboy hats and boots.
Guests enjoyed barbecue and a smoked pig along with the traditional fixings, and a baked bean cook-off ensured some of the tastiest food possible. Cake was served for dessert.
The festivities started with a Friday night bonfire and continued the following Saturday with horseback riding and horse and buggy rides.
Out-of-town guests traveled from Alabama, Colorado, South Carolina, Texas and various points throughout Louisiana.
Members of the reunion’s organizing committee included Lindell Perez, Wavey Martin, Brenda Robert, Katry Martin, Mona Binion, Marion Martin and Phil Martin.
The next Benoit Martin family reunion will be held on April 2, 2016, the first Saturday after Easter.
