Mire firemen donate equipment to Lyons Point volunteers

MIRE –– The Mire Volunteer Fire Department, under the direction of Acadia Parish Fire District 7, will donate two pieces of surplus fire apparatus to the Lyons Point Volunteer Fire Department.
The donation was formulized during a meeting July 7 in Mire between members of both fire departments.
In September of 2014, the Mire Volunteer Fire Department was generously donated a fire engine by the City of Broussard and the Broussard Fire Department. Engine 73 has been placed in service and is responding to all structural calls within the Mire fire district. Through the kindness of this donation. the Mire Volunteer Fire Department was able to replace aging apparatus that were currently being used.
The Board of Directors of Acadia Parish Fire District 7, which has control over all apparatus operated by the Mire Volunteer Fire Department, felt that the best course of action with regards to the surplus apparatus was to show the same kindness and generosity that Broussard Fire Department showed to the Mire Volunteer Fire Department.
The decision was made to donate the excess apparatus to a local department that was in need of such apparatus free of charge.
Chief Shannon Richard of the Mire Volunteer Fire Department explains “We know what it’s like, how expensive these pieces of equipment can be to a small department. Luckily for us we have been on the receiving end of a donation, so we felt it was only right to pay it forward so to speak. Our department is growing and we have been able to upgrade our fleet of apparatus through donation and smart purchases, so we are happy to help out Lyons Point or any other department any way we can.”
The two pieces of apparatus include a 1983 Spartan engine and a 1999 Ford ambulance.
