Overnight crash claims 1 life

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigation a motor vehicle crash that took the life of a Rayne man early Saturday morning.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, deputies responded to and investigated the crash which occurred at the corner of Standard Mill Road and East Park Drive located near Crowley.
Deputies at the scene reported that the driver of the motor vehicle was identified as 23-year-old Lance Wagner of Sarver Road in Crowley. It is believed that Wagner was traveling west on Standard Mill Road at a high rate of speed and attempted to turn south on East Park Drive causing the vehicle to hit a ditch and landed on a truck parked in the driveway in the 800 block of East Park Drive.
Wagner was transported to Acadia General Hospital and his condition is unknown.
The passenger in the vehicle who was ejected during the crash was identified as 24-year-old Brock James Simon of the 4100 block of Standard Mill Road in Rayne. Simon was transported to Acadia General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Melancon said that charges against the driver are expected pending the results of toxicology.
