Francis A. “Buzzy” Maraist

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at noon in Martin & Castille’s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Francis A. “Buzzy” Maraist, 77, who passed away on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Cornerstone Village South in Lafayette with his family at his side.
Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Mausoleum in Crowley.
Bob Ogle, pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be granddaughters Ashlee Maraist and Caroline Ellender. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing for the services.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Jo Ann Fruge Maraist; his daughter, Cynthia Maraist Ellender; his two sons, Bryan Maraist and wife Bonnie, and Patrick “Rick” Maraist and wife Melissa; his five grandchildren, Ashlee Maraist, Brett Maraist, Brooke Maraist, Andrew Ellender and Caroline Ellender; his sister, Claire A. Maraist; and his brother, P. Jules Maraist.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brittany Maraist; his parents, Aline Chappuis and A.C. Maraist; and his three sisters, Eulalie M. Sonnier, Yvonne M. Simon and Andre’ M. Lalande.
Buzzy was a resident of Crowley, Morgan City and Lafayette. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He loved to fish, play golf and travel in his motorhome around the country with Jo Ann. He enjoyed his retirement after a successful career in the oil field service industry. Buzzy will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brett Maraist, Brooke Maraist, Jennifer C. Maraist, Andrew Ellender, Caroline Ellender and Shane Garnett.
Honorary pallbearer will be Ashlee Maraist.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s Southside location on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate staff of Cornerstone Village South of Lafayette for the care provided over the past two and a half years.
In lieu of floral arrangements, Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church in honor of Buzzy Maraist.
