City projects, improvements completed

A number of city projects and improvements have been completed just in time for holiday travel.
The long-awaited American Legion Drive and Zaunbrecher Road re-pavement project, part of the Hwy 90 re-pavng project, is now complete with striping and shoulder work recently finished by state employees. The smooth surface provides a comfortable ride for citizens and visitors, alike.
Another project which is almost complete is the construction of drainage easements to delete flooding for the Azalea Drive-Southeastern Ave. residents. A right-of-way was given by the Martin Crossing Subdivision developer which provided the city the opportunity for a needed drainage ditch, which is being handled by city employees. The project should be completed by mid-December as stated by Mayor Chuck Robichaux.
The Civic Center has just received a much-needed renovations, its first in the last 15 years. The renovation included the stripping and refinishing of all floors, cleaning and painting of the entire interior including kitchen area and bathrooms, installation of new granite countertops in the concession stands and bathrooms, along with new mirrors and light fixtures in all bathrooms throughout the building. The project was completed by city employees, in addition to help provided by inmates through the Rayne Police Department and the La. Department of Corrections inmate labor program.
