Unique bridal tea party honors Maggie Doucet
The home of Wayne and Stephanie Leger was the setting on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, for a old-fashion tea party held in honor of Margaret Mary “Maggie” Doucet, bride-elect of Lance Racca.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Malcolm and Margaret Doucet of Rayne.
The prospective groom is the son of Karen Racca and William Racca, both of Rayne.
The 10:30 a.m. courtesy was hosted by Melissa Thibault, Marci McGovern, Mary Kathryn McGuffee, Margaret Doucet, Kathy Doucet, Jessica Racca, Marlene Thibodeaux, Stephanie Leger, Sr. Margaret Ohlenforst, Annette Simon, Yvette Ohlenforst, Cheryl Rivette, Jill List and Savana Dohmann.
Guests were served a variety of refreshments, including Chantilly Cake, yogurt parfait, mini scones, cookies, breakfast casserole, homemade biscuits, deviled eggs, fruit tray, crawfish etouffee and grits, raspberry mascarpone spread, humus, mini breakfast quiches, shrimp salad, chicken bites and fruit cocktail, along with raspberry lemonade, lemon water, red and white wines, Sneaky Pete’s, coffee and tea.
Theme for the mid-day event was a vintage brunch/tea shower, with the Leger home decorated with tea pots, tea cups, vintage hats, handbag, gloves, and handkerchiefs (some of the handbags and hats were of the bride-elect’s maternal great-grandmothers). The decor also included paper doily garland, and handkerchief garlands. Paper doily lanterns hung over the food table (these were made by Margaret Doucet, sister-in-law of the bride-elect)
Template for the cake topper and the thank you token was designed by Marci McGovern, sister of the bride-elect. Pictures of the engaged couple were also placed throughout the home.
Special sentimental vintage items were the cake toppers from the wedding of the bride-elect’s parents and the groom elect’s parents, the bride-elect’s mother’s wedding dress, and a handkerchief made for the bride by her mother with lace from her wedding dress and ribbon from her mother’s wedding dress (the maternal grandmother of the bride elect), in addition to the wedding corsages from the mother and maternal grandmother of the bride elect.
The cake topper read, “Forever my heartsweet,” a special saying the engaged couple shares together.
Thank you tokens for guests was a tea bag adhered to a paper cut out of a tea pot with the wording, “Love is brewing Maggie and Lance. Thank you for celebrating with us.”
In addition to the honoree, mothers and hostesses, guests wore hats in keeping with tea-party theme.
For the special occasion, Maggie wore an elegant ivory dress designed with an empire waist and lace bodice, topped off with a burgundy floppy felt hat along with gold and pearl jewelry accents.
The honoree’s mother wore a sleeveless blue polka dot dress fitted at the waist and a fitted blue hat accented with a bow and pearl jewelry, with the prospective groom’s mother selected a long sleeve black dress with a white lace overlay and a black felt floppy hat.
Approximately 25 guests were in attendance from Rayne, Duson, Lafayette, Carencro, Shreveport and Monroe.
Special guests in attendance were Dorothy O. Leger, maternal grandmother of the bride-elect, and Sr. Margaret Ohlenforst, MHS, godmother of the bride-elect.
Maggie and Lance will be married on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, during an evening wedding ceremony at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, followed by a reception at the City Club at River Ranch in Lafayette.
