The dedication of the Fallen Police Officers memorial, originally scheduled for May 17, at the Rayne Police Station was been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather.
It has been rescheduled for Monday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m. at Rayne Police Station.
A granite monument will be dedicated during the ceremony in dedication to the three city policemen who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving the City of Rayne.
The families of the three slain officers –– Americus Vespucius Lyons, Albert P. Guidry and Donnie L. Ousse — will be special guests.
Anyone wanting to make a donation is asked to contact Dawn Gerbine at 337-334-5152 or Capt. Tony Olinger at 337-334-4215.
The memorial will be erected on a circular concrete base in front of the Rayne Police Department’s building on The Boulevard with a walkway available from the police department’s parking lot.
Plans call for a flagpole to be erected and the monument to be flooded in lights for nighttime viewing.
A reception will follow the ceremony, and additional parking is available at the Bernard-Bertrand House across the street from the Police Station.
