Winnie Menard Richard
The family and friends of Winnie Richard are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on May 27, 2016, at the age of 98. Winnie was born in Morse to Felician Menard and Ellen Breaux on March 1, 1918. Winnie was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and a catechism teacher. She loved to play tennis and play cards. Most of all, Winnie loved her family and spending time with them all. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Winnie is survived by four grandchildren, John Bill Humble of Morse, Priscilla Carlson of Morse, James Ray Humble of Morse and Alvin Humble of Morse; one sister-in-law, Rena Menard of Morse; 12 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, whom she truly loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Felician and Ellen Breaux Menard; her beloved husband, Aneas Richard; her daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and John Humble Sr.; one grandson, Richard “Poncho” Humble; one brother, Nason Menard; and six sisters, Lillian Andrus, Adelia Spell, Lillie Simon, Allie Hanks, Lena Mae LeJeune and Helen Menard.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morse on Monday, May 30, at 10 a.m. with Father Clint Trahan officiating. Burial will follow in the Hanks Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Sunday, May 29, from 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday evening. Visitation will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of her service at 10 a.m.
Carrying Winnie to her final resting place in Hanks Cemetery will be Jim Humble, William Humble, Brandon Carlson, Ronnie Richard, Joe Patin and Alvin Humble. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Simon, Gabe Carlson, Terrell Istre III and Isaiah.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Heart of Hospice, as they were a big help for the family in their time of need.
