Edward Champagne Sr.
St. Martinville – Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel for Edward Champagne Sr., 80, who passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his residence.
Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.
Rev. Fr. Louis Allen Breaux conducted the funeral service. The readers were Patsy Costas and Sandra Romero.
Mr. Champagne was a veteran of Korean Conflict, having honorably served his country in the United States Army. After retiring from the railroad, he started his own construction business and raised race horses as a past-time.
Survivors include one son, Edward “Eddie” Champagne Jr. and his wife Kathy of Breaux Bridge; four daughters, Brigitte Jean McCain of Youngsville, Cara Wolfe and her husband Dennis of New Iberia, Carla Verret and her husband Ferril of Catahoula, and Donna Lynn Champagne of St. Martinville; four brothers, Harris “Mick” Champagne of Breaux Bridge, and Linden Champagne, Harold Champagne and Oleus Champagne Jr., all of St. Martinville; three sisters, Emma Lou Serrette of Breaux Bridge, Mazel Dwyer of St. Martinville, and Elise Verret of Parks; eight grandchildren, Corey Stanfield and his wife Jen, Aaron Stanfield, Brenna Johnson, Victoria “Tori” Johnson, Lilly Kay Romero, Angela Scallan and her husband Brady, David Champagne and his wife Jodie, and Denise Domingues and her husband John; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaley, Kennedy and Drake Stanfield, Ayden Linden, Andrew and Austin Domingues, Hannah Ferguson and Ty Champagne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oleus and Elise Gauthier Champagne; his wife, Barbara Scott Champagne; his father-in-law, Willie Scott; two brothers, Mac and Earl Champagne; and two sisters, Verna Guidry and Maudrey Landry.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers were Ed Champagne Jr., Linden Champagne Sr., Corey Stanfield, Aaron Stanfield, David Champagne and John Domingues.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Tauzin, Harris “Mick” Champagne, Harold Champagne, Dennis Courville, Oleus Champagne Jr., Richard LeBlanc, Eric Dwyer and Oleus Champagne III.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
