Hayes in the race for City Judge

Kim Hayes, a Crowley attorney and lifelong resident of Acadia Parish today announces his candidacy for City Judge of the City of Crowley and the Sixth Ward. “It is my goal to bring improvements and needed changes to the Crowley City Court system,” Hayes stated.

Hayes obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Philosophy from Arizona State University, followed by his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from University of Seattle School of Law. He was selected for the American Studies Program in Washington, D.C. where he worked for the late Sen. Russell Long.

Hayes is licensed to practice law in the state of Louisiana as well as Texas. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Texas State Bar Association, and the Acadia Parish Bar Association. In addition to being a part of a family-owned business in Crowley for 40 years, Hayes has been an attorney at law in general civil practice for 23 years, an ongoing Assistant District Attorney for Acadia Parish for 19 years, a state and city prosecutor for the City of Crowley for 14 years, and an attorney for Crimestoppers of Acadia Parish and honorary boardmember.

In making his announcement Hayes said some of the changes he will implement if elected are:

-Upgrade computer technical systems.

-Increase jurisdictional limits to better handle the needs of Crowley.

-Commit to 24-hour accessibility to City Judge and City Court.

-New involvement and interaction with juvenile problems (Teen Court) and seeking to establish a Boys and Girls Club of Acadia Parish (or a similar mentoring program) to promote a drug free community for the youth.

-New liaison between City Court and Sheriff of Acadia Parish to solve the City’s incarceration problem.

-Generate a database to track repeat offenders in City Court for stiffer penalties.

-Create more severe penalties for bad checks, shoplifting and no insurance drivers-the three biggest plagues of the Crowley business community and driving public.

Hayes continues, “I believe I have the experience to implement these changes for the betterment of the citizens of the City of Crowley and Sixth Ward. My experience also includes:

-Handling of every juvenile case in the City of Crowley and Acadia Parish for over four years.

-Prosecuting thousands of felony cases from Crowley and the rest of Acadia Parish for 15 years, including homicides, sex crimes and drugs.

-Served as Assistant District Attorney under District Attorneys Stansbury and Harson for 19 years.

-Prosecuted traffic, bad checks and batteries as State Prosecutor and City Prosecutor for the City of Crowley the past 17 years.

-Argued legal cases before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the Louisiana Supreme Court.

In concluding Hayes stated, “Because of my work experience, I know this city, its problems and solutions. I will work very hard to bring the correct judicial temperament to the City Court bench and dispense justice fairly and evenly, providing equal treatment for everyone who comes before the Court, tempered with compassion.”
