Agnes Sellers Gauthier
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 8, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Agnes Sellers Gauthier, age 88, who died on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at her home in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Reverend Gil Dutel, pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette, was the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services. Eulogist was Jude Sellers. Stephanie Hoffpauir, organist and soloist, sang for the services.
Survivors include two sisters, Lily Mae Broussard and Ruby Trahan and her husband Dudley; four children, her sons, Cyrus J. Sellers Jr. and wife Mary, Russell Sellers and wife Debbie and Jude Sellers and wife TL; and her daughter, Ina Wills and her companion John Tubbs; five grandchildren, Brady Wills and wife Lesley, Christa Dunlap and her husband Scott, Adam Sellers, Paul Sellers and Matthew Sellers; and one great-grandson, Taylor David.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cyrus J. Sellers Sr.; then followed by her second husband, Louis Gauthier; her parents, Ernest Duhon and the former Edith Simon; three brothers, Wilkin Duhon, Acey Ben Duhon and Edwin Duhon.
Agnes was a devoted mother who raised her family before beginning a career in the Lafayette Parish School Food Service, retiring after 20 years as a cafeteria manager. She was actively engaged in the American Legion Auxiliary for 38 years with many friends. She also belonged to VFW in Judice and the Widow Wood.
Pallbearers were Cyrus J. Sellers Jr., Russell Sellers, Jude Sellers, Adam Sellers, Paul Sellers and Matthew Sellers.
Honorary Pallbearers were James Fletcher, Michael Webb and Taylor David.
The family requested that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
A Rosary was prayed Sunday at 6 p.m. in Martin & Castille Funeral Home by Brady LeBlanc.
A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Sellers family to Agnes’ sister, Lily Mae Broussard, who lived with Agnes and was always there when she needed. Also to Hospice of Acadiana and to the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care given to their mother. A special thank you is also offered to Lisa Sarver and Jill Soniger who were devoted caregivers and offered comfort and love in Agnes’ time of need.
