Conerly Roy “Bud” Estes Jr.
Conerly Roy “Bud” Estes Jr., 87, of Houston, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2016.
Born on Aug. 5, 1928, in Basile to Allene and Conerly Roy Estes Sr., he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Beverly Brook Estes his parents and his brother, Eugene Singleton Estes, and son-in-law Thomas L. Sims.
Left to treasure his memory are his daughters and son-in-law, Kaye and Chris Loudermilk and Diane Sims, all of Houston, Texas. He is survived by five wonderful grandsons, Patrick, Connor and Harrison Loudermilk and Jackson and Kyle Sims. He is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Evertz of Mandeville; a brother, James Estes and wife Mary of Tyler, Texas; a sister-in-law, Barbara Estes of Baton Rouge; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He proudly served his country in the 1st Calvary Division of the U.S. Army during World War II in the occupation of Japan. After concluding his service in the Army, Bud graduated from LSU with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He began his career in the oil fields before moving to Houston, where he worked for more than 50 years in the oil and gas industry.
For many years the Estes family resided in Rayne, where all four attended school. Conerly was a member of the Rayne High School State Championship six-man football team as well as other school programs.
He was one of several young men who helped to get the Rayne Tribune printed and wrapped to mail free papers to every serviceman and servicewoman through the war years.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 14, at 3 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston. A man of strong faith, he was proud of his grandson Patrick’s affiliation with the Brotherhood Under Christ fraternity (BYX) at Texas A&M University.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the scholarship fund of the Texas A&M Chapter of Beta Upsilon Chi (BYX). Donations can be made payable to BYX Scholarship Fund and mailed to Chris Loudermilk, 4545 Bissonnet, Suite 126, Bellaire, TX 77401.
