Darrell Joseph Johnson

A memorial service for Darrell Joseph Johnson, 60, will be held in Crowley at Isrealite Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. Rev. Felton Joseph of Houston will officiate.

Darrell passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary.

Darrell Joseph was a life-long native of Crowley and even though illness kept him away, he loved and missed his community, friends, family and home.

Darrell was a 1972 graduate of Crowley High School. There he was recognized for his ability to play the trumpet which also got him recognized on the state level.  His passion to play got him a scholarship to play for Southern University which brought him much joy. After leaving college due to illness, Darrell continued to serve by playing taps at military funerals here in Crowley. 

Darrell loved singing with the male chorus at Isrealite Baptist Church where he was baptized at an early age.

Survivors include his daughter, Niami Johnson of Los Angeles; his son, Elisha Riley of Beaumont, Texas; five grandchildren, Nathaniel Johnson, James Johnson IV and James Johnson V, all of Los Angeles, and Jasmine Johnson and Jaimese Johnson, both of Beaumont; three sisters, Corine John Baptist and her husband, Cleveland, of Crowley, Antonia Bertrand and her husband, Clyde, of Marksville and Sandra Faye Washington and her husband, Clyde, of Charlotte, North Carolina; four brothers, James Earl Johns Jr. and a sister-in-law, Dora Johnson, of Crowley, Rodney Rogers and his wife, Benaye, of Arlington, Texas, Leo Rogers and his wife, Barbara, of Crowley and Leon Rogers and his wife, Mona, of Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Earl Johnson Sr.; his mother, Mercedes Trahan Rogers; and one brother, Kelvin Rogers.
