Delma Marie Richard Abshire

Funeral services for Mrs. Delma Marie Richard Abshire, 84, of Lyons Point, were held on Monday, June 30, at 2 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, Crowley. Interment followed in Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan.

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 29, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home, Crowley, with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Visitation continued on Monday from 8 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.

Mrs. Abshire passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 9:10 p.m. in a Lafayette hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of the Lyons Point area, Mrs. Abshire was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers and crocheting. Lovingly known by all of her family as “MawMae,” Mrs. Abshire’s greatest joy in life was being with and caring for her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Carla Hoffpauir and husband Jack of Lyons Point; son, Leecaster Joseph Abshire and companion Gail Menard of Rayne; grandchildren, Kimmitha K. Welch of Kaplan, Jessica Sonnier of Crowley, and Clifton Hoffpauir and wife Tammy of Lyons Point; great-grandchildren, Brodey Hoffpauir, Allyssa Hoffpauir, William Welch, Dustin Welch, Bethany Welch, Megean Sonnier, Blayine Sonnier, and Shalacie Sonnier; and great-great-grandchild, Savannah Flynn.

Preceding Mrs. Abshire in death were her husband, Clifton Abshire; parents, Dozia and Agnes Leger Richard; brothers, Mervin Richard, Elzie “Nonc Moneg” Richard and Offord Richard; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Mae Abshire.
