Dianna Veazey McDaniel

Dianna Veazey McDaniel, affectionately known as “Mimi”, surrendered her battle with cancer on November 9, 2013. As she was called to her eternal rest, she was surrounded by her daughters in the comforts of her Louisiana home.

She was born to the late Amos and Mollie McClearn Veazey on May 5, 1945 in Madisonville, Kentucky. She attended Hopkinsville High School and then two years of college at Austin Peay University. From childhood to early adulthood, she traveled the summers to Vicksburg, Mississippi to visit relatives; it was here where she met and married the father of her children, Billy McDaniel.  Dianna was employed by Atwood Chevrolet for 20 years followed by George Carr Cadillac for over the next twenty years until she retired in September of 2012 to make her home in Crowley. She was recognized many times as “Vicksburg’s Secretary of the Year”.

Dianna was most known for her undying devotion to her two daughters whom she often referred to as “her life”.  A true Southern belle at heart, Dianna never met a stranger and attempted to always make ones feel welcomed. Although born in Kentucky, “Dixie” was always playing in her heart. As her girls were members of the University of Mississippi Rebelette Dance team, she found herself most often in attendance cheering for them and the Ole Miss Rebels.  Her grandchildren were often told “I love you to the moon and back”. She truly centered her life around her daughters and grandchildren which is what brought her final destination to Louisiana.

She is survived by her daughters Michelle McDaniel Owens (Kelly) and Angela McDaniel Smith (Scott), her sister Saundra Ann Veazey of Kentucky and brothers, Dan Clifton Veazey of South Carolina and Robert Veazey of Kentucky and Mimi’s angels Grant, Jordan, Brookelyn, Austin, Morgan and Peyton.

A funeral mass will be held in her honor on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi and a memorial reception to follow at The Corners in Vicksburg. The family invites all friends to attend both services. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Michael Catholic School (805 E. MA 02458.)
