Dr. Richard Milton Miers

Dr. Richard Milton Miers, 72, died Friday, July 22, 2016 in his home from complications related to congestive heart failure and pneumonia. In hospice care for one week prior to his death, Dr. Miers passed away peacefully in his sleep.
He leaves his wife, Catherine; daughter Adrienne Crozat, her husband Matthew, and their children Nicolas and Aimee; daughter Anne Kammer, and her husband Bruce; daughter Alyce Saucier, her husband Kevin, and their children Avery, Haydn, Ashtyn, and Austyn; and his son Rick Miers, and his wife Catherine.
Born in Iota, Louisiana, July 2, 1944, Dr. Miers was predeceased by his father, Leo Milton Miers of Crowley, and his mother, Verlie Sonnier Miers of Iota. Dr. Miers attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He began his practice as a physician in Crowley, and later served as the head of Lafayette General Medical Center’s emergency room. Dr. Miers practiced as a diagnostic radiologist in Lafayette during the latter part of his medical career, and subsequent to retirement, volunteered with Hospice of Acadiana.
Dr. Miers and his wife Catherine were members of the Krewe of Rio in Lafayette for a number of years, and season ticket holders for the New Orleans Saints for ten seasons. He enjoyed cooking, traveling with his wife, including trips to England, Ireland, Italy, and San Diego, as well as spending time with his six grandchildren in Washington, D.C. and Texas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home. Fr. Michael DeBlanc, associate pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church will be officiating for the services. Dr. Miers will be eulogized by his best friend and cousin, Kenneth Breaux of Houston.
