Funeral services were held at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 28, 2013, in St. Edmond Catholic Church for Edward “Eddie” John Privat, age 77, born March 27, 1936 in Rayne, Louisiana, the third son of Roland Privat and Marie Heinen Privat who passed away September 25, 2013, in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Reverend Keith LaBove, pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church, was celebrant of the Mass and conducted the funeral services.

Burial took place in St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Rayne.

He attended elementary school at St. Joseph in Rayne, and then went to Cathedral Carmel High School in Lafayette where he graduated in 1954. He attended SLI and in 1956 he later joined the U.S. Army, where he learned his coveted culinary skills. He worked for a time with his father at Privat Lumber Company in Rayne, and then as a salesman for Pittsburg Paint and Glass. Sales expertise became his best asset and he began work in Lafayette’s Oil and Gas industry where he became well known and made many friends, acquaintances and contacts. His open mind, welcoming personality, and good nature served him well and endeared him to many people. 

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Ann Duczer deBoisblanc Privat. six children, Denise Privat Daigle and her husband, Glenn Daigle; Joseph (Joey) Privat and his wife, Jenny Ortego Privat; Ryan Privat and his wife, Stephanie Desonier Privat; Anthony (Tony) Privat; Da’un Privat Marks and her husband, Quintin Marks; Brady Privat and his wife, Barbara Codianne Privat; 14 grandchildren, Ashley Daigle; Brandt Daigle and his wife, McKenzie Venable Daigle; Cristen Daigle Chadwick and her husband, Beau Chadwick; Drew Daigle; Joshua Privat; Jacob Privat; Taylor Privat; Stephen Privat; Luke Privat; Damian Privat; Adam Marks; Cody Marks; Anzley Privat; Gabriel Privat. three great-grandchildren: Roman Daigle, Edison Daigle, and Leon Michael. He was also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Gayle Arceneaux Privat Witherwax. two stepchildren, David deBoisblanc and Cynthia Anne deBoisblanc Hoz; five step-grandchildren, Jessica deBoisblanc Nealis and her husband, Parker Nealis, and their children, Rilee Nealis and John Parker Nealis Jr.; Andrew Hoz; Anna Hoz; John William Hoz; Leah deBoisblanc. three siblings, Thomas (Tommy) Privat, Daniel Privat and his wife, Charlotte Privat; Ann Privat Burch and husband, Jim Burch. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Roland Privat and Marie Heinen Privat; his brothers Roland (Bobby) Privat, Jr. and Louis Privat; his step-grandson Randolph (Randy) deBoisblanc; and his beloved Aunt Josephine Heinen Daigle. 

The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday, September 27, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours continued Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers were family members. Honorary pallbearers were be Robert Cazayoux, Rob Floyd, Ronnie Padgett and Mike Day.

He wishes to be remembered by the many friends he made and helped with the addiction to alcohol. As one person commented, ‘We stand up when Eddie enters the room.” On his behalf his wife thanks you all.
