Howard Joseph Nugent Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held be Thursday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church for Howard Joseph Nugent Sr., 79, who died Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, in Jennings.

Fr. Randall Moreau, pastor of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours to be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Thursday from 8 a.m. to the time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Interment will be in Estherwood Cemetery.

Mr. Howard was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Egan. He was a lifetime member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. He served the community of Estherwood as chief of police for 13 years. 

Mr. Nugent is survived by his wife of 59 years, Francis Thibodeaux Nugent; two sons, Howard Nugent Jr. and wife Terri of Hathaway and Joseph Nugent of Crowley; two daughters, Selina Shamsie and Sacha Nugent, both of Estherwood; six grandchildren, Joshua and Andrew Nugent, Clayton and Caitlin Shamsie and Christian and Alex Nugent; four great-grandchildren, Gatlin, Remy, Colt and Gracelyn; and two sisters, Dorothy Myers of Jennings, and Florence Blanchard of Midland. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Nugent; his mother, Yvonne Kibodeaux Trahan; two brothers, Ory Nugent and Daniel Nugent; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Nugent; and son-in-law, Paul Shamsie.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Nugent, Clayton Shamsie, Christian Nugent, Andrew Nugent, Loren Thibodeaux, Donald Blanchard, Alex Nugent, Keith Myers and Scot Nugent.
