Rayne- It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that the family of Joanna Istre Bourg announces her passing on October 25, 2013 at 8:15 pm in Breaux Bridge Louisiana. She was born on September 21, 1933 to the union of Foster J Istre and Elizabeth Husers Istre on their 4th wedding anniversary in Acadia Parish.
Funeral services will be held at St. Leo IV Catholic Church, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 12:00.
Roberts Cove held a special place in her heart, a resident of Baton Rouge for 58 years, Central for 40 of those years and Breaux Bridge since 2000.
Joanna received her education from the Sisters of Notre Dame at St. Anthony School in Baton Rouge and after graduation she started working for the State of Louisiana Revenue department and later in the department of Education. She also worked at the Federal Land Bank, East Baton Rouge School Board and LSU Extension Service. She was active in the St. Bernard Ladies Alter Society, Catholic Daughters, Eucharistic Minister, a committed Adorer at St. Bernard adoration chapel and volunteer at St. Agnes Nursing home.
Joanna enjoyed being a homemaker, she was an avid collector of recipes. Her family enjoyed her homemade biscuits, yearly fruit cakes, as well as her jellies and preserves. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, crochet and craft projects.
Joanna is survived by Ervin, her loving husband of 57 years. Her son Paul and his wife Dawn of Haslet, Texas. Her grand-daughter Christina Joanna and her husband Robert Reed and their daughter Kiley Istre of Ogden, Utah, her grandson Christopher Ervin Bourg of the United States Navy, his wife Kandace and their two daughters Cheyenne Elizabeth and Kyra Leigh. Her dearest sister Maxine and husband Tommy Guerin of Gross Tete, Louisiana, their two sons Andy and Scott Guerin. Brother & sister in-laws TJ and Lorraine Bourg, Martha Bourg and Sister Annie (Elizabeth) Bourg of New Orleans.
She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. A committed Eucharist Minister, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and Court of St. Paul 1434.
Visitation will be at St. Leo・s Catholic Church in Robert・s Cove, Louisiana on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. With mass at noon at St. Leo・s and a reception in the church hall after graveyard services.
Friends will be received Saturday, November 02, 2013 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Roberts Cove, La.
