Josephine “JoAnn” Zaunbrecher Ronkartz

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church for Josephine “JoAnn” Zaunbrecher Ronkartz, 79, who died at 4:37 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 in Crowley.

Fr. Joseph Tran and Fr. Ed Degeyter will concelebrate the Mass and the committal services in the St. Lawrence Mausoleum. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Monday. Visitation may be observed from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at St. Lawrence Church.

JoAnn was born August 6, 1934 in Roberts Cove, La. to the late William F. and Maria Leonards Zaunbrecher of Roberts Cove. A 1952 graduate of St. Michael’s High School and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Mercy College in New Orleans. She retired in 1984 from Acadia Parish Health Unit. She was a lifelong member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Ladies Altar Society, a devoted member of the Adoration Chapel at St. Lawrence, a member of St. Leo’s Ladies Altar Society and a member of The Rosary Group.

She loved praying the Rosary, quilting, traveling and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grands and greats. She was very proud of her annual Christmas Village, which she displays every Christmas.

JoAnn is survived by her husband of 57 years Jerome Ronkartz of Mowata; a daughter Gwen Ronkartz Richard and her husband Mark of Mowata; One son, Greg M. Ronkartz and his wife Diana, of Mowata; a daughter-in-law Patricia E. Ronkartz of Mowata; two brothers, Felix Zaunbrecher and his wife Hilda of Breaux Bridge; Francis “Bud” Zaunbrecher of Abbeville; Two sisters, Mary Agnes Fabacher and husband C. A. of Iota; Willietta Phillips of San Antonio; Eight grandchildren, Nick Heinen and wife Sarah of Hathaway; Lindsey H. Boudreaux and husband Ben of Hathaway; Garrick Ronkartz and wife Danielle of Mowata; Allison R. Arceneaux and husband Tim of Mowata; Michael Ronkartz and wife Claire of Metairie; Scott Ronkartz and wife Katie of Roberts Cove; Ronald Ronkartz and Samantha Ronkartz of Mowata; Nine great-grandchildren: Garrick Paul, Luke and Andrew Ronkartz , Ava, Annalise and Jack Arceneaux, Mylie and Isaac Heinen and Emily Boudreaux.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Christopher Ronkartz and Stephen Mark Ronkartz; a great-granddaughter, Addison June Heinen; two brothers, Paul and Richard Zaunbrecher and a sister Theresa Z. Broussard.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grand-son-in-laws.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude for the loving care provided by the staff of Kailo LTAC Hospital, and Drs. Chad Vincent, Dale Leleux and Robert Aertker.
