A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Joy Lee Suire Trahan, 82, who died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at 4:05 p.m. at Acadia General Hospital in Crowley.

Mrs. Joy was a native of Crowley and longtime resident of Kaplan. She retired after 30 years of service as a receptionist for Dr. J.D. Hains. 

Fr. Matthew Higginbotham, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, officiated for the services. Visiting hours were observed Monday, Dec. 29, from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. A rosary was recited Monday, Dec. 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Abshire Cemetery.

Mrs. Trahan is survived by her husband, Hilliard J. “Sonnie” Trahan Sr. of Kaplan; one daughter, Yvonne T. Brazell and husband Johnny of Jena; one son, Kenneth “Boo” Trahan and wife Joan of Kaplan; five step-children, Tina T. Villata of Salt Lake City, Utah, Hilliard “Bubba” Trahan Jr. of Lafayette, Gladys T. Boyd of Lafayette, Clanson Trahan of Houma and Johnny Trahan of Florida; three sisters, Mary S. Gilbert of Lafayette, Sandra S. Hanks of Crowley and Kathy S. Kuffler of Estherwood; four brothers, Tony Suire of Crowley, Wilson Suire of Lafayette, Daniel Suire of Baton Rouge and Larry Suire of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Tradd Trahan and wife Meagan and Amaya Trahan; 12 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Suire Sr. and Rita Dore Suire; one sister, Dorothy Suire; and one brother, Richard Suire.
