Richard Dale Martel
Funeral services for Richard Dale Martel, 76, of Crowley will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation began on Monday, Dec. 15, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home in Crowley, with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation continues on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
Mr. Martel passed away on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at 1 a.m. in a Crowley health care facility.
A native and longtime resident of Crowley, Mr. Martel worked for many years as a carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenters’ Union in Lake Charles, and he retired from PPG Industries.Â
Mr. Martel enjoyed gardening, and was especially proud of the tomatoes he grew. He also raised chickens, pigs, and other farm animals. His greatest joy in life was being with and caring for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patsy Lambert Martel of Crowley; daughters, Tina Gobert and husband Vernon Jr. of Crowley and Katie Jane Barras and husband John Tracy of Breaux Bridge; sons, Ronald Dale Martel and wife Martha of Summit, Mississippi, Richard Dwayne Martel of Crowley and Roy Dana Martel of Crowley; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Martel in death were his parents, Oris Paul Leger and Ethel Floyd Leger.
Serving as pallbearers are Daniel Gobert, Roy Martel, Richard Dwayne Martel, Ronald Martel, Jesse Martel, Travis Guillotte and Tracy Barras.
