Rayne woman murdered

RAYNE – Details were still sketchy Tuesday afternoon following the stabbing death of a woman on 510 N. Bradford St. in Rayne.

Cherelle Charles was apparently stabbed multiple times by her boyfriend, whose identity has not yet been made available by Rayne Police. The stabbing took place at approximately noon Tuesday.

The victim was transported to American Legion Hospital in Crowley where she died as a result of her injuries.

“She was a really nice woman, too nice . . . definitely too nice to go out like she did,” said one young man in front of American Legion who wished to remain anonymous.

A large crowd of people gathered in front of the victim’s house following the incident and remained long after she had been transported to the hospital.

“They don’t come any better than her,” said another man at American Legion. “This is just unbelievable.”

Charles body was being transported to Calcasieu Parish for an autopsy according to investigator Monte Briggs with the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.

In a late development, a suspect, Quinton James Mouton, was arrested in connection with the crime and charged with 2nd degree murder. His bond is set at $350,0000.
