Lady Wolves dominate 5-4A All-District selections

Wolves place three on All-District squad

As the Rayne High Lady Wolves dominated the 2015-2016 basketball season, they also towered over other programs when it came to the selections of the 5-4A All-District Team.
Selected the district’s Most Valueable Player for the second year in a row was Rayne High’s Charlesha Dugas, a power guard who averaged 22 points per game among her 703 total points for her senior campaign.
The recent Southeastern signee also averaged five rebounds, five steals and forced five turnovers while on defense for the Lady Wolves.
Joining Dugas in First Team selections again this year was teammate Whitley Larry. The Rayne center dominated the lane for the Lady Wolves and caused trouble for her opponents.
The recent UNO signee totaled 355 points with an 11 points per game average.
On defense, Larry led the district with 286 rebounds (8.7 per game) and 203 blocks (6.2 per game).
Repeating as the district’s Coach of the Year is Rayne High’s Chester Randell who led his Lady Wolves to the state finals during his tenth year
“As long as I’ve been the basketball coach here,” stated Randell, “this season was the most players we ever had picked for All-District honors. I’m very proud of all our players on a great season.”
Named on All-District Second Team were Rayne junior Keysuana Moore and sophomore Amari Collins.
Moore averaged 7.3 points and 3.4 steals per game, while Collins collected 7.1 rebounds and 8.6 points per outing.
Named to the All-District Defensive Team was Rayne High’s Tajane Butler. She averaged 5.1 steals per game for the Lady Wolves, while forcing 3.7 turnovers for her opponents per contest.
Rayne’s Tiesha Young was the lone Lady Wolf named in All-District selections. The freshman was named among honorable mention picks.
Wolves
Three members of the Rayne High Wolves Basketball Team were noted on the list as announced during the District 3-4A meeting as announced by Rayne Coach Louis Handy.
Rayne senior guard Byron Mouton was selected to All-District Second Team. He averaged 14.8 points per game during his senior campaign, in addition to turning in a 78% average from the free throw line.
Named among the All-District Defensive Players was Rayne standout Dontray Leopold.
Rayne players listed among honorable mention selections were Don Joseph, Deion Handy and Braylin Bonnom.
